CANISTER 135 is a premium stainless-steel film roll container for lovers of design and display objects.

Joe knows that his product isn’t for everyone. It’s a machined-metal film cartridge holder made from a single block of steel for a single roll and costs $98. But practicality or price wasn’t the concern in creating something that would look good on a shelf or feel great in hand.

When I asked Joe what compelled him to make this object, he said he wanted something on his shelf that looked as good as his Leica M3 — the plastic or sheet-metal holders weren’t doing it.

After several test prototypes, Joe settled on his final design, ordered 100 CANISTER 135s from his manufacturing contact, and launched a website where you can buy one today: archive135.com/products/ca….

Joe hopes that, demand permitting, he’ll be able to offer different base materials, such as brass, titanium, and anodized aluminum. Some customization may be possible in the future.

I like this idea — it could make a perfectly impractical and yet very fun gift. It comes in a nice box, too!
