Lomography launches the affordable Simple Reloadable Half-frame camera — with film, flash, and battery for $29-$35.
This new camera may be one of the cheapest ways to shoot film in 2026. Priced at $29 (b&w) and $35 (colour) — with film & battery included — these half-frame cameras will expose 72+ frames with standard 36exp. cartridges, lowering the cost of film and development per frame. The starter pack includes 40 frames — which you should know how to develop and scan properly for best results — explained below. 🎞️
I recently played with Kodak FunSaver cameras, which can be found for $17 with excellent film pre-loaded, but they aren’t that easy to reuse (I’m working on an article that will show you how). But Lomography’s Simple Use Half features proper film and battery doors, making it perfectly suitable for shooting again and again without resorting to hacks. Definitely an easier, less awkward way to get started with film — and it’s still very affordable, costing less than a single roll in some places!

Film. Lomography’s Half-frame Simple Use Reloadable Film Camera uses standard 35mm film. The price of the camera depends on the film that it comes with: colour or black-and-white. In either case, you get 40 frames.
The colour film option is LomoChrome Classicolor, which should produce images of similar quality to Kono Color 200 and Optik Oldschool OptiColor 200 (review & samples: analog.cafe/r/kono-color-2…). It sells for $34.90 at the Lomography shop: shop.lomography.com/half-f….
The cheaper option is Lomography Lady Grey, which is a fine-grained black-and-white film (you can see it in comparison to Lomography Berlin Kino film in Jennifer’s review on Shoot It With Film: shootitwithfilm.com/lomogr…). It sells for $29.99 at the Lomography shop: shop.lomography.com/half-f….
Check with your lab if they can develop black-and-white film, as some labs don’t offer this service (it’s a different process from the more common colour C-41).
The half-frame film format is physically smaller, which means images are twice as grainy as those from regular 35mm film shots. That in itself isn’t the biggest impediment to image quality. Grain is fun to look at. The sharpness of your photos will be defined by the scanner, so pick the highest resolution option at your lab or take extra care scanning at home.
This is a cheap camera with a plastic lens, but that is a part of its casual/creative intent and can make great results, as Lomography’s photographers have shown in the samples here.
The camera uses an f/9 lens aperture with a 1/120s shutter, with a focal range of 0.6m-∞. This is a very similar spec to the fancier (full-frame, zone-focused/sharper lens, pricier) Kodak Snapic A1. So if you want good results with your Reloadable Half, follow the exposure guide I wrote for these specs here: analog.cafe/r/kodak-snapic….
I think this camera would make a nice gift for someone who enjoys photography and is interested in its experimental side.
I reviewed several cameras of this quality on Analog.Cafe and the best one so far for half-frame film has been the Kodak Ektar H35N: analog.cafe/r/kodak-ektar-…, whereas the absolute best half-frame camera ever made is an all-metal mechanical SLR with a huge range of high-quality interchangeable coated glass lenses, including an 800mm telescope — The Olympus PEN! Danilo wrote a great overview of this camera here: analog.cafe/r/my-olympus-p….
